When hiking and coming across a bent object in the path of the trail, you wonder "is it is stick or a snake?" Is the object in front of me a harmless inanimate object or could it be dangerous? Using imagery of trail markers of the John Muir Trail in Tennessee, we ask: is the trail a stick or a snake?
